The Present Indefinite Tense, also known as the Simple Present Tense, is used to express actions that occur habitually or repeatedly at an unspecified moment that happens in the present. It’s used for actions that are always true, general truths, and repeated actions.

Present Indefinite Tense:

Format:

 Affirmative Sentences:

·       Singular: Subject + verb 1st 

(for he/she/it or any name, add -s or -es) +Obj.

o    Plural: Subject + verb 1st +Obj.

 Negative Sentences:

o    Singular: Subject + does not + verb 1st +Obj.

o    Plural: Subject + do not + verb 1st +Obj.

 Interrogative Sentences:

o    SingularDoes + subject + verb 1st +Obj?

o    Plural: Do + subject + verb 1st +Obj?

For example,

 We use the Present Simple for habits or general truths, while the Present Perfect is used for actions that happened at an unspecified time before now.

  • Affirmative: “The bird flies south in the winter.”
  • Negative: “The bird does not fly south in the winter.”
  • Interrogative: "Does the bird fly south in the winter?”

 Affirmative Sentences:

2. PAST INDEFINITE TENSE:

The Past Indefinite Tense, also known as the Simple Past Tense, is used to talk about actions that occurred in the past at a specific time. It’s used for completed actions, past habits, and events that happened at a specific time in the past.

Past Indefinite Tense:

Format:

Affirmative Sentences:

o     Subject + verb 2nd+Obj.

Negative Sentences:

o     Subject + did not + v 1st+ Obj.

Interrogative Sentences:

o     Did + subject + + v 1st +Obj?

For example:

  • Affirmative: “She ate an apple.”
  • Negative: “She did not eat an apple.”
